In addition to the curriculum sport programme, there are many opportunities for our pupils to get involved in extra-curricular sport throughout the week, during tea break and club time, right through until 8.15pm. There are two practises a week for both lacrosse and netball for each year group, four practises for athletics during the summer term, one practice for rounders and one for tennis. Swimming is available all year round once a week as is polo on Fridays at the Royal Berkshire Polo Club, golf taught internally is available in the Autumn and Spring terms and a summer rowing programme takes place at Dorney Lake. There is also a Badminton Club, an Indoor Hockey Club, a Cricket Club, Fitness Club and Squash Club, all of which run on a weekly basis at school and private lessons are available in both tennis and squash with our on-site coaches for those who are keen to progress further.
For more on these please see below.
We also run a full dance and fitness programme at St George’s. Ballet is taught from Grade 4 upwards and we have girls currently studying at Upper Intermediate Level, Pointe and Conditioning, Street Jazz and Modern and tap classes. For more information about our dance programme, please click here.
We also offer fitness classes in our gym in both pilates and zumba. These are particularly popular with our older girls and many of our Sixth Formers will undertake these classes in their scheduled PE periods on a weekly basis.
Learning to play golf is free during the autumn and spring terms. For those interested in taking their golf expertise to a more advanced level we offer a summer golf programme in partnership with Windlesham Golf Academy on Thursdays after school with a dedicated team of highly qualified PGA professionals. Golfers of all standards can be accommodated from the complete beginner and recreational golfer to elite players. Facilities at the Academy include a 300 yard range with covered bays and grass tee to the bunkered short game area and putting green. For more information please click here.
Many of our girls here at St George’s are keen riders and our location so close to Ascot Race Course and the many riding stables in the vicinity means that we are spoilt for choice with some of the top riding facilities in the UK. Set in 220 acres of stunning English countryside, the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club encompasses six top class polo pitches, two training pitches, an all-weather arena, sumptuous clubhouse, a Royal Pavillion, extensive stabling for 200 horses, renowned polo school, tennis and croquet and of course superb catering and famed hospitality. The club is the only one to run both summer and winter polo seasons and its first member was HRH The Prince of Wales. For more information about the Royal Berkshire Polo Club please click here.
Dorney Lake is a modern world-class rowing and flat-water canoeing centre set in 450 acres of spectacular parkland. The site hosted the Rowing and Kayak events during the Olympic and Paralympic Games for London 2012 and is privately-owned by Eton College. For more information about Dorney Lake please click here.
We run a bi-annual sports tour to Disneyland Paris over Easter which has been extremely popular with the girls! Open to both Fourth and Fifth Year pupils, the five day trip involves international tournaments with 64 schools from all over the world as well earned relaxation in the famous theme park. Last year both our netball teams were placed in the top ten and we were extremely proud to win the ‘Spirit of the Games Award’ for outstanding team spirit, community involvement and sportsmanship.
In addition, we run departmental trips to see professional sportsmen and women in action which have included watching Surrey Storm, the super league netball team in Guildford and visits to Chelsea Ladies Football Club where the dexterity and skills have been electric to watch.
