SMSC - spiritual, moral, social and cultural education, is taught throughout our First to our Fifth Year in timetabled weekly classes. The teaching is a shared responsibility between specialist teachers in both SMSC and linked areas, i.e. Information Technology, Science, Religious Studies, Medical and Careers and the Form Tutors. In addition there is a programme of workshops and lectures delivered by outside agencies and the Parents Committee who add a further dimension with seminars on pupil wellbeing.
SMSC aims to increase the girls understanding of themselves both as an individual and in relationship to others and to help the girls achieve their fullest potential both in the present and in the future. The programme informs the girls about current social and personal issues, gives an appreciation of the role of the individual in society, encourages respect for different national, religious and ethnic identities, develops the girls’ ability to reflect on issues and take part in discussions and to discuss issues relating to child protection.
